Description
“The day I met Talia, we made love in front of forty people. Then, we went to have a drink, and got to know each other.” Thus opens Rencontre sous X, a frank, comedic, and uplifting story about Roy, a soccer star recruited to the French team from South Africa, and Talia, a struggling Ukrainian porn star. Both come to Paris full of hope and expectation, only to find themselves misled, exploited, and disappointed.

Roy soon finds out the real reason he was recruited by the French team: short on cash, the managers needed him in order to secure the South African audience with a lucrative broadcasting deal in that country. For all outward appearances, Roy lives an enviable life—all his expenses are paid by a team that does not actually want him to play. And yet we feel sorry for him because all he really wants is to be appreciated for his athletic talent. Embarrassed by the whole situation, he conceals his wealth from Talia. She discovers the truth from a young fan of Roy’s who lives in her building. Just as things start to look up for Roy, who was finally asked to play a game against Rome, he learns that he’s to be sold to Manchester, once again to help pull the team out of financial difficulties. Tired of letting the managers control his life, Roy announces on television in an interview his love for Talia and his resolve to move back to South Africa.
